Gotthard Pass winter closure and opening in summer

When does the Gotthard Pass open?

The Gotthard Pass road is usually reopened to traffic in spring/summer at the end of May.

When will the Gotthard Pass be closed?

In winter, the Gotthard Pass road is usually closed at the end of October or beginning of November. This is due to the large amounts of snow that lie on the Gotthard Pass for around 6 months during the winter. In spring, the snow masses on the roads have to be removed, whereby meter-high snow walls form, which are very popular with tourists.
